Evolutionary Computation

Optimisation techniques inspired by biological evolution and natural selection.

Evolutionary computation begins with a population of candidate solutions and improves them over multiple generations. Better candidates are selected and modified using operations such as mutation, recombination and reproduction.

These techniques are useful for optimisation problems with irregular or extremely large search spaces. They do not require the objective to be differentiable, but they may need many evaluations before finding a strong solution.
